Day 4- Wednesday 13th May 2009

Today, I was absent. But my group researched and got everything together!!

Day 3- Tuesday 12th May 2009

Today, groups 1-7 (who went on the field trip) stayed, and groups 8-15 went to the Q.E.A.F, and the Turkish Embassy, while we stayed at school.

Here's what we did today:
First, we had a small assembly with Mr. Schwaberow and Mrs. Shaikh. They told us the plan for our day. Then, we in our groups researched for our project, and started getting it all together. After that, we had break then we went back to our rooms and then we had another assembly, and that assembly was for the Scavenger Hunt, they gave us instructions, and our first clue. We all set of hunting, but part of my group, decided to follow another group, and leave us. So we had to go look for them, after a long time of looking wee found them and we as a group started hunting, when we finished finding all the clues and numbers, we had to break a code, we had to put the clues in order ( we found out it was by alphabetical order). When we finished everything we headed to the Kodak store to Mr. Kelly and he said we had to take a picture. Then, we had lunch and after that we researched alittle more, then we had another assembly they announced that the prize is a picture with an alien, and the 4 groups that actually finished the hunt got a prize. Later, we researched more and we put our project together (brochures), till 1:30, after that we went for relay races, when we were done we cleaned up. And that was our day!

Behaviour:
My group as in behaviour was not bad, except the part when our group in the scavenger hunt just left us.

Day 2- Monday 11th May 2009

Today, we went on a field trip, first to the Q.E.A.F, then after that we went to the Turkish Embassy.

Here's what we did today:
After about 30 minutes of sitting on the bus, we arrived to Q.E.A.F which stands for Qatar Emiri Air Force. The people their were very welcoming, they started us off with a Powerpoint Presentation, explaining the history of Q.E.A.F, then the history, after that their duties, and the levels. The most important things explained from the PP presentation, were that the Air Force started in January 1970, and their duties were in war and peace time, in war time they attacked the enemies, and in peace time they protected Qatar, they also made a radar line and it's about 100km, if an unknown plane comes they will send a plane to investigate it, because it has no permission to come in that line ( International rule), the levels in Q.E.A.F are about 12 levels, it depends on your ability, to get to the highest level, the lowest begginer level is a cadet and the highest is the General... ( Which was Mr. Salem Al Nabet ). After that, we had a refreshment break, later when we finished they took us to 2 planes, and they split us to 2 groups and nearly everyone got the chance to ride a plane. When I got in the plane they told me how to control the plane, the middle contoller is to move around, right is to move right, left is to move left, if you move it forward you move up (go higher, which is colder), and towards you is down (which is warmer). And they took pictures of us! After that, we went to a plane simulator to actually move the controllers. Later, we went to wing no. 2, because we were in wing no. 1. They then explained about the helicopters, there are Gazelle helicopters, Squadron Mk.2, and Squadron Mk.3, the Gazelle is small (like a Gazelle, small), the Squadron Mk.2 is smaller than the Mk.3, and the only difference between them, is that the Squadrone Mk.3 has a radar on the top of it, but the Mk.2 doesn't. Then, we went to actually see them and instead of taking a lot of pictures, they took a group photo. And we went to a helicopter simulator, to practice our flying. We after that, we went to wing no. 1 again for a group photo!

After all that, we went to the Turkish Embassy, as we entered the turkish people warmly welcomed us, they were so friendly and kind, the food was ready on the tables. We waited for the Turkish Embassador, when he arrived he told us about turkey, and we asked questions, then a lady gave us booklets, about places to explore in Turkey. Later, we started to eat, and when we were done the lady that gave us the booklets, played a game with us, the game was that she would randomly pick someone and they had to sing in there language, it was FUN!
Overall, this this trip was GREAT!

Behaviour:
Most of the time, my group's behavior was fine.

Day 1- Sunday 10th May 2009

Today, is the first day of www in Qatar, I'm writing this blog because I'm the group recorder. We are the explorers group from the past. And Moneera Al Ahmed was absent.

Here's the news today:

We chose the team roles:
* Director: Jamal Al Ani
* Researcher: Moneera Al Ahmed
* Recorder: Rahaf Al Saadi
* Technological Expert: Ali and Rami
* Artistic Expert: Ali and Rami

Our team focus is:
How did nomad exploration influence the developement of exploration?

Our team badge:
We all did a badge, then we looked at them all and decided which shape was the best, which was Jamal's, and the details to put in, the Qatari flags done by Rami, and the inside details were accomplished by me, I kept a place for the person's name, and the name of our group " Alpha 5", I also included " Explore the Past". It was successful as a design, although as in colour, it didn't have any at all.

Behavior of the Day:
One of our team teacher crew, suggested that our badge without colour didn't look good, it looked as if it was a draft. So he gave us the advice to make our badge nicer by adding colour, but my group members rejected, and argued with him that it looks fine. So the teacher was not pleased with their behaviour at all, and he complained to the recorder (me)! I thought it was fine to just add some colour, I agreed with the teacher, because these badges must look good, because we'll go to the Turkish embassy with them on.

Work done Today:
We finished the work expected on paper, and we finished our badge, with colour. On the laptops we researched about exploration, I made a PP presentation and finished it, except I need to add the last design touches, Ali was looking for pictures, Rami started doing a website, but didn't get much done, and Jamal researched ( for our wikispaces).
